ALE JORDÃO

ALE JORDÃO WAS BORN AND LIVES IN SÃO PAULO. STUDIED AT FAAP IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 90'S, WITH SANDRA CINT, DORA LONGO BAHIA, PAULO PASTA, FELIPE CHAIMOVICH, EDU BRANDAO, CARMELA GROSS, REGINA SILVEIRA AND NELSON LEIRNER – MAIN REFERENCE FOR THE ARTIST. HE ALSO STUDIED AT DOMUS IN MILAN, A SCHOOL ORIGINATING FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF POST-MODERN ITALIAN DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE IN THE 70'S AND 80'S. CONCEPTUALLY.

FOR JORDÃO, THE OBJECT-WORK IS NOT JUST WHAT IS LEFT FROM A CONSTRUCTIVE PROCESS, BUT SOMETHING THAT IS FORGED AND RETAINS THE MEANINGS OF THE WAYS OF CONSTRUCTION, LEAVING THEM EXPLICIT, COMMUNICATIVE, ALIVE IN THE OBJECT. TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN SAY A LOT ABOUT THE MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL RESULT THAT THE ARTIST WISHES TO PRODUCE. JORDÃO'S OBJECT WORKS ARE SET OF DESIGNED PRODUCTIONS THAT MAY INVOLVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES, SUCH AS THE ONE ON THE SCREEN FRAMED WITH ARMORING MATERIAL (1) THAT RECEIVES PISTOL SHOOTS OR MOBILE MADE OF RECYCLED METAL (2). OR STILL CONTINUOUS MAPPING ACTIONS, SUCH AS THE “BOKA LOKA” PROJECT, IN WHICH THE ARTIST STICKER ART IN SEVERAL CITIES AROUND THE WORLD.

NOT ONLY THE OBJECT, BUT ALSO THE CONTEXT IN WHICH IT INSERTS IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE ARTIST AND THIS CONTEXT IS ALSO THE PRODUCT OF INTENSE CONCEPTUAL AND PLASTIC ELABORATION. IN 2002 JORDÃO STARTS THE PRODUCTION OF A SERIES OF CALLIGRAPHIC OBJECTS USING NEON LIGHT AS A SUPPORT. THE LUMINOUS WAS PRESENTED AT A HAPPENING PARTY – UNDERSTOOD AS SPECIFIC, MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND INTERACTIVE MEDIA. ALL THE APPARATUS THAT MADE THE PARTY EVENT - INVITATIONS, LIST OF GUESTS, HOSTESS, DJ, DRINKS - AS WELL AS THE CHOICE OF LOCATION - CAFÉ PHOTO (3) - WERE COMBINED IN ORDER TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE FRUITION OF ART PASSED TO BEING A NATURAL PART OF A SOCIAL PROCESS, A LIVE, COLLECTIVE AND TEMPORAL EXPERIENCE. THE EXPERIENCE FOLDED INTO A SERIES OF PARTIES-WORKS, SUCH AS THE MUNICIPAL MARKET (4) AND TOMIE OHTAKE (5).

CO-AUTHOR OF THE NAU PROJECT (6) , THE ARTIST ORGANIZES CONTAINERS IN A STREET OF AVENIDA PAULISTA, WHERE HE PRESENTS – INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THEM – A SET OF HIS FACILITIES AND OTHER ARTISTS THAT APPEAR, SUDDENLY, IN A PLACE OF INTENSE TRAFFIC. HERE, JORDÃO FURTHERS IN HIS RESEARCH ON THE CONTEXT IN WHICH HIS WORKS ARE PRESENTED, BUILDING A TEMPORARY GALLERY, INTERVENING IN URBAN SPACE THROUGH AN ARCHITECTURAL CONSTRUCTION AND AN ART PROGRAM.

BEYOND THE OBJECT AND CONTEXT ISSUES, OVER HIS CAREER, THE ARTIST MAKES HIS INTEREST IN COLLABORATION MORE AND MORE EXPLICIT. JORDÃO WORKS IN ASSOCIATION WITH DESIGNERS, ARCHITECTS, EVENT PRODUCERS AND OTHER ARTISTS SINCE HIS FIRST EXPERIENCE – STUDIO MÃOS – CREATED IN 2000. THE COLLABORATIVE PROCESS EMERGES AS AN ENHANCEMENT OF SITUATIONS INVOLVING THE PRESENTATION OF HIS WORKS. COLLABORATION ALLOWS THE ARTIST TO EXPAND THEIR POETIC FIELD AND DIALOGUE WITH DIFFERENT SUBJECTS, IN ADDITION TO EXPANDING THE CAPACITY TO PREPARE THEIR PRESENTATIONS. THROUGH COMPLEX, IMERSIVE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY AND TEMPORARY INSTALLATIONS, THE ARTIST EXPLORE NEW DYNAMICS IN THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PUBLIC AND EXPAND THE SPACE OF ART BEYOND THE CONVENTIONAL THINGS.

IN HIS RECENT PROJECT “DESPEGO/TRASH AWAY” (7), THE ARTIST REINFORCES THE ISSUES HE HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING FOR A LONG TIME AND PROPOSES A NEW APPROACH TO ART EXHIBITIONS IN PUBLIC SPACE. “DESPEGO” IS A PERMANENT INTERVENTION IN PUBLIC SPACE, A COLLABORATIVE ACTION AND A WORK-SITUATION. OPERATING AS AN OUTDOOR EXHIBITION SPACE, JORDÃO COMMISSIONS ARTISTS TO TRANSFORM FROM TIME TO TIME, AN EXTENSION OF A WALL LOCATED IN THE CITY CENTER, NEXT TO THE COPAN BUILDING, WITH TEMPORARY FACILITIES, GRAFFITI AND OTHER INTERVENTIONS AND VARIOUS INTERVENTIONS. AT A GIVEN TIME, JORDÃO ALSO PRESENTS HIS INSTALLATION, BUILDING WITH VARIOUS OBJECTS FROM VARIOUS TIMES A KIND OF 'RETROSPECTIVE SHOW' OF HIS OBJECTS. NO RULE DEFINES THE PARTICIPATION OF THE PUBLIC, WHICH CAN SEE OBJECTS HANGING ON THE WALL, MOVE WITH THEM AND EVEN TAKE THEM HOME. AS IN LEIRNER'S “EXPOSURE NOT EXPOSURE”, IN AN EXTREME CRITICISM TO CONSUMPTION, JORDÃO DETACHES HIS OBJECT-WORKS AND TRANSFORMS THE PROCESS OF TRANSFER OF POSSESSION, IN THE MOTTO OF THE PUBLIC EXPERIENCE.
